DEBATE

Debate teaches critical thinking.

Students must engage with both sides of an issue, ranging anywhere from education to international relations. They learn to construct and analyse arguments, all while improving their public speaking skills.

At EEC Debate, our group classes give each student the opportunity to practice and engage actively with their peers. We offer coaching for all levels, including chances to participate in local and international competition.

But what is debate?

Most classes will be held in the British Parliamentary style. Speakers deliver a 5 minute speech for or against a topic, convincing a panel of judges that they beat the opposition. Here, EEC Debate student Justin Zhou demonstrates a speech against the practice of ecoterrorism in the Finals of the 2020 Queen’s University Tournament.

EEC Debate Showcase

On October 25th, EEC Debate hosted a free showcase, where our talented coaches debated the motion “Should we impose an extra tax on companies that profit from COVID-19?”. Watch the recording to see the case for both sides!
